Jamshedpur, Aug. 17 (The Telegraph): From serving food to cooks and waiters at XLRI’s canteen, to organising a marathon for the poor — students and faculty members of the B-school are mulling innovative ideas to celebrate “Joy of Giving Week” next month.
The event, conceptualised by Mumbai-based NGO GiveIndia, is scheduled from September 27 to October 3 and will be a national movement urging people to contribute. Anyone, anywhere, can donate money, services and time to celebrate the week.
“We are discussing unique ideas to help others, just to see a smile on their faces. It is not only about giving money but also services and time. We’ve not finalised our plans but will do something unique,” said Madhukar Shukla, a senior faculty member.
The B-school has organised an awareness programme to unveil the campaign on August 21, when the final plans will be announced.
“The awareness programme on Friday has been organised to build a momentum among corporates, schools and organisations like the Confederation of Indian Industry. There will be a celebrity visit but that’s a surprise,” said Shukla.
Initial plans include performance by the XLRI band, Bodhi-Tree, for people in public places, to organising a marathon for the underprivileged and visiting old age homes and special children, along with donating clothes.
