The 28th edition of MAXI FAIR, envisioned by the eminent Dr.Sharad Sarin of XLRI in 1979; will be held on the 21st of January, 2007 at XLRI. This concept of a marketing fair, is now an accredited marketing research tool with several top universities both in India and abroad adopting the concept. This marketing fair allows for a four way interaction among students, the teaching faculty, companies and the local community.
Some of the success stories of MAXI FAIR include the testing of Nestle Iced Tea, Pepsi, Brooke Bond and Vicks. Previous editions of the fair have seen tie- ups with giants like HLL, Asian Paints, BATA, Coca Cola, ITC, Citibank, ICICI and SBI. Last year, the event saw an outstanding footfall of 4500 visitors, and this year, the figure is expected to swell to never before reached heights.
This year’s MAXI Fair has its share of new ideas- Rural MAXI Fair and Social Research Fair. With this, MAXI Fair moves to the villages with teams travelling by LCV and undertaking market research in 2-4 villages around Jamshedpur. This is in line with XLRI’s decision to offer a full elective course in Rural Marketing.
Another very interesting concept is “Shilp Mela”, which is organised by SIGMA ( Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance) in association with MAXI. Shilp Mela will be a platform for local artisans to market their handicrafts and agriculture products, which is in tune with SIGMA’s mission of social responsibility.
The fair will for the first time, have participation from NGOs like CRY and UNICEF, besides HLL as part of the social research and rural fair. MAXI Fair will be inaugurated by Lt. Gen. Thomas Matthew whereas the Shilp Mela will be inaugurated by Mr. Nitin M. Kulkarni, the Deputy Commissioner on Sunday, 21st January at 11 a.m. The other companies partnering XLRI include Nokia, Marico, and Citibank.
